ARLANXEO NBR Trademarks

ARLANXEO is a globally leading supplier of high quality nitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR). We offer an extensive portfolio with our brands Perbunan®, Krynac® and Baymod® N. This broad range of grades of high performance NBR provides a varying ratio between the non-polar monomer butadiene (50 % - 82 %) and the polar monomer acrylonitrile (18 % - 50 %). In that way we meet customer’s demands relating to both exceptional low temperature flexibility and excellent resistance to swelling in oils, fuels and greases.

Perbunan®

Perbunan® is a special fast-curing NBR rubber enabling very quick molding cycles. Besides their extreme oil resistance, vulcanizates are characterized by a high modulus and good sealing force retention. The clean Perbunan® grades are – among other properties – designed for molding applications to reduce the tendency toward mold fouling. In addition they are suitable for food and potable water applications. Perbunan® is ideal for the automotive, construction and machine industries as well as for food contact applications. It is preferably used for molded rubber parts such as seals, membranes, vibration dampers and hoses. Furthermore it is also suitable for rubberized fabrics, roll covers, sheets, conveyor and transmission belts, shoe soles among other applications.

Krynac®

Krynac® is a multi-purpose medium cure polymer for technical rubber products that are exposed to oils, fuels and greases. Its extreme resistance to those liquids makes it suitable for a wide range of applications. Moreover, specially produced Krynac® grades feature slow-curing, pre-crosslinked and carboxylated types leading to high processing safety, very good extrusion performance and excellent resistance to abrasion and wear. Krynac® is used in various applications for the automotive and industrial equipment & machinery industries, shoe soles and flooring. Among many areas of application it is preferably used
for hoses, seals and membranes as well as for roll covers, coated fabrics, sheets, thermal insulation tubes, sheets and footwear.

Baymod® N

Baymod® N serves as a modifier in powder form and improves in the final product the resistance to oils, fuels and greases. Its free flowability ensures automatic metering and processing. It is highly compatible with different base polymers such as pVc or Phenolic Resins. Thermoplastics modified with Baymod®  N remain permanently flexible and elastic while also being impact-resistant. Furthermore, it enables a very low extraction rate of plasticizers. Pre-crosslinked Baymod® N grades provide excellent dimensional stability in extruded soft PVC profiles. In friction materials, they serve as an excellent binder for both fillers and fibers and improve the coefficient of friction. Linear Baymod®  N grades are soluble in wet processes and therefore used in the rubber industry for gaskets manufactured in a solution process as well as for wet processes in the friction industry as a binder that improves the impact resistance. In the plastic industry they are preferably deployed for soft PVC in injection molding processes.

NBR from ARLANXEO

Nitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR) is a copolymer made from butadiene and acrylonitrile. This polymer is essential for technical rubber products that need to be resistant to mineral oils, service fluids and greases in automotive applications and machinery, to oils and fats of biological origin, and to many other less polar industrial media.

In addition to oil resistance – definitely its most important property – ARLANXEO  NBR has a number of strong features that set it apart from other rubbers:

  • Excellent resistance to selling in oils, fuels and greases at an optimal cost-performance ratio
  • Very good resistance to thermal-oxidative aging up to 120 °C (based on tests lasting more than 1000 hours)
  • Exceptional low temperature flexibility ectending below -50 °C
  • High level of mechanical properties
  • Good compression set ans compression stress relaxation properties (sealing force retention)
  • Extreme resistance to abrasion and wear
  • Low gas permeability

This figure provides an overview of the property performances of NBR compared to other broadly used elastomers. NBR surpasses these polymers in regards to its resistance to oils, fuels and greases, but also regarding resistance to abrasion and wear, gas permeability and sealing force retention.

This figure shows a comparison of NBR to different elastomers with some degree of oil resistance. NBR outmatches other polar polymers in not only oil resistance, but in almost every other key property when properly compounded and processed.
